Oracle JDK 6 is no longer maintained. It is not updated with the latest security patches and are not recommended for use in production. You can however still download them from the Oracle Java Archive

Oracle Linux downloads can be verified to ensure that they are exactly the downloads as published by Oracle and that they were downloaded without any corruption. This page describes the steps to verify the integrity of Oracle Linux downloads regardless of download source.

The checksum file contains a list of files that are part of a download package with the corresponding checksums as well as a GPG signature. The GPG signature enables anyone to verify that checksum file was published by Oracle. The steps below describe how to verify they checksum file itself and then verify the contents of the Oracle Linux download by checking against the checksum file.

Throughout this section we will be using the wget command to download the Oracle Java software packages. wget may not be included by default on your Linux distribution, so in order to follow along you will need to install it by running:

Note: In order to install Oracle Java, you will need to go to the Oracle Java Downloads Page, accept the license agreement, and copy the download link of the appropriate Linux x86 .rpm package. Substitute the copied download link in place of the highlighted part of the wget command.

Download Sun/Oracle Java JDK or JRE from here (current version is JDK 6 Update 45) -archive-downloads-javase6-419409.html#jdk-6u45-oth-JPR.Note: Select rpm.bin package (example jdk-6u45-linux-i586-rpm.bin, jre-6u45-linux-i586-rpm.bin, jdk-6u45-linux-x64-rpm.bin or jre-6u45-linux-x64-rpm.bin).

Looks like it was a newbie question, bins are just scripts with attachments (More precisely 'bins' are binary packages, as opposed to source packages. This includes stuff you install via apt-get (which is compiled by debian) and oracle javas (which are compiled by oracle for either 32 or 64 bit linux) The aha moment for me was that i do not need to run them as a parameter to another command but they are self running scripts/ like on mac - you can untar or jar extract them}.

The Oracle team provides Java RPM packages as well as compiled source code. Many times I have tried Java installation using rpm packages but I faced some issues. So I decided to install Java using the compiled source code. Since then I have installed a large number of times Java on CentOS, Redhat based systems without any issues. To download the latest Java SE Development Kit 8 release from its official download page or use following commands to download from the shell.

Hello. Does anyone known where is hash in download link comes from? For example 750e1c8617c5452694857ad95c3ee230in -pub/java/jdk/8u192-b12/750e1c8617c5452694857ad95c3ee230/jdk-8u192-linux-x64.tar.gz

On and, certain JDK bundle extensions are getting truncated on download when using Firefox version 102. The downloaded bundles have no file extension like ".exe", ".rpm", ".deb". If you are not able to upgrade to Firefox ESR 102.0.1 or Firefox 103 when it is released, then as a workaround you can:

Java 8 is not supported on Windows XP[185] but as of JDK 8 update 25, it can still be installed and run under Windows XP.[186] Previous updates of JDK 8 could be run under XP by downloading archived zip format file and unzipping it for the executable. The last version of Java 8 could run on XP is update 251.But its components compatibility starts to break on unsupported OS in early build during Java 8 updates development.[citation needed]

From October 2014, Java 8 was the default version to download (and then again the download replacing Java 9) from the official website.[187] "Oracle will continue to provide Public Updates and auto updates of Java SE 8, Indefinitely for Personal Users".[4]
